Sryth is a text based single player RPG played in a web browser that I have been playing for several months now. It is one of the very few single player browser games that is text based and it plays like a story. The game is free, however, I must admit that the best features of the game are only available to Adventurer’s Guild subscribers. Don’t let that stop you though. I don’t give my money to many games anymore, but Adventurer’s Guild is very inexpensive and spans an entire year, giving you really cheap entertainment.

The gamemaster is constantly coming out with new scenarios, at least three per week on average. My only pet peeve is that there are numerous spelling errors and duplicated words, which is annoying for a story driven game, but the concept is very good and plenty entertaining. If you are interested in checking it out, go to Sryth.com and sign up.

A couple of tips if you sign up.

1. Go for a randomly generated character, as the default ones don’t have very good stats. You are allowed to reroll a random character an unlimited number of times so keep hitting reroll until your stats are no lower than 17 or 18, but try for 19s and 20s if you can. There are a lot of stat checks that are dependent on these, and they also affect abilities like whether or not you can use magic.
2. Allot your points out among the four skills you are allowed, I’d say 5 to a skill, so that you have as many starting abilities as possible. Do not bother with conjuration as a power as I have seen little use for it. Gating has limited ability as its main use is closing Shadow Gates, and there is an item that can do that.
3. Start with the undead starting adventure, I forget what it is called. At the end you will find an item and there is a man who wants it back. Give it to him and get Necromancy and you have two powers. Then, go get a weaponry subskill in Talinus at Thofyra’s training yard. It is in Central Tysa. You will figure it out as you wander. And I forgot to mention you should start with Weaponry as a new character. Try unarmed only after you’ve gotten used to it. The reason I say to get so many of these skills and powers early on is that later there will be many adventures with experience to all skills and powers and you will eventually get an item that gives you 10% exp bonus per day. Those all skill/power rewards will be a big help.

I don’t want this to seem too overly daunting so I will leave it at that for now, but if you’d like to know more, just leave me a comment.

One final thing I will do is give a brief description of the game.

It takes place in a sort of mideval realm. There are goblins, trolls, ogres, and lots more, as well as krogari (rat men), Kurund, (members of an evil cult), a Catameroc, (not sure if that’s spelled right but half cat(, and lots of other stuff. The basic idea is that your character is an adventurer, starting off in the town of hawklor and doing small things like hunting goblins or helping protect carriages. As the game progresses, you will become stronger and take on more perilous and longer missions. It takes a long time to catch up to as far as the game is so far and you can be assured that the game will provide hours of entertainment.

Okay well, that was probably a bit too long winded, but I am done for now. Enjoy!
