As I sit dangling my toes in the New Year, there is much to consider in the past and the future.
2008 brought many life changes including the end of my marriage, a new home for me and my daughter, and a new freelance career. I opened my first business checking account, filed my first quarterlies, and experienced my first Christmas morning without my peanut. I’ve become more savvy, confident, and self-sufficient than I’d ever dreamed possible. I have also become wise enough to know I still have much to learn.
As I look forward, I find that I am filled with both great hope and lingering fear. Taking stock of my situation in the context of my personal and business goals, I can’t help but feel a tiny pang of envy towards women who have the freedom to make decisions based purely on their own needs and desires … women who have chosen to forgo the responsibilities of motherhood.
